This clinical entity often typified by spongiotic inflammatory process, but this cutaneous pattern not pathognomonic of AD. In vein, AD research benefits from available tissue samples, which are easy to obtain patients As such, we sought retrospectively identify whose data, including previous biopsy specimens, can then be used for future studies, integrating preexisting dermatopathologic information biopsies relevant characteristics the electronic medical record (EMR). validation study, 263 histologically classified as “spongiotic dermatitis” (SD) were cross-referenced their corresponding EMRs. Guided physician notes and UK Working Party’s (UKWP) diagnostic criteria AD, useful in determining status individuals abstracted EMR, history other atopic diseases comorbidities. Two groups biopsy-EMR pairs created, both SD+/AD- SD+/AD+. Comparisons using logistic regression showed that SD+/AD+ group had significantly greater proportions conditions, such seasonal allergies (4.62 [2.72, 7.79], P < 0.001) asthma (3.97 [1.90, 6.73] 0.001). suggests accurate diagnoses attributed now making them usable studies Using similar approaches, it may possible comparable process could conditions.
